Help needed for GPA evaluation

As I had pointed out earlier in my profile, I was expecting a GPA of 3.5-3.6. However, the absolute yardstick used by the GPA system is a huge blow. I did my graduation from a small university in North India, which is known for being stingy in awarding marks. I secured a 60% and was amongst the top 15 of my batch. However, the GPA system will wipe off this achievement by converting a 60% into a poor GPA. This isn't a fair approach. Don't schools use a comparitive yardstick to assess the academic calibre of a student? Can I get my GPA from an accredited agency which reflects this accomplishment? Please help.

I am not sure what you mean by the "GPA system". Different schools have different methods that they use, and you need to call your target schools to find out what they require. If it is not specified, you should definitely find a way to convert that shows off your GPA in the best light.
