550 to 700 in 1 month

by areenn » Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:12 pm
I gave the GMAT last month and got a 550.I was very dejected and decided to go for it again.I knew I had the capability to get a better score. After a month of toil I finally gave the GMAT today and received a 700 (V 38,V48).I am visibly elated to have reached the 700 mark.
For all those who are aiming to better score: BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and take extra caution to FINISH the exam.If I can increase my score by 150 in 1 month ANYONE CAN!!
I truly want to thank the beatthegmat community for its excellent notes, tips and forums.YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

Hi Areenn,

Pls share how differently u approached the GMAT in one month.

I had written GMAT 2-years back and could barely score 480 ...Had a very slim study routine... Now i have been stduying for 3 months but still when i write CATS i cant move beyound 580-600... I have 9-6 job .. What should i do to build study pattern.

thx/jawad

Sorry for the typo guys.Its 700(Q 48,V 38).
Well,I have a engineering background and therefore the Quant portion was relatively easier than verbal. For Verbal I thoroughly studied the Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction book,free-gmat-flashcards(from beatthegmat) and GMAT_Verbal_Notes_By_Sumit (from beatthegmat) to improve by verbal skills.
I personally think that the GMAT is more about giving the exam strategically.Don't think of it as a MENSA exam and be confident.Make sure that you pace the exam well and NEVER NEVER leave any questions unanswered. The Math portion on the test day was confusing but the idea is to leave the questions that you are unsure about and to MOVE ON.DON'T ponder over one question for long as the implications can be fatal.
I also took the MGMAT and KAPLAN exams and made sure that I timed the exam well and finished it on time. Also, make sure you give the GMATPrep exams before the real GMAT as the GMATPrep is the most reliable yardstick you can use to guess how much you can get on the real GMAT.
Believe in yourself and I am pretty sure that all of you will do well! Good luck all!
