IMO C, use of between shows that the time duration is between two successive passes. Not sure though

The sentence means that comet changes its orbit slightly during the period between its passes close to earth - that period is 76years.

C. Between should be used for two and here we are talking about two passes. "Interval between" is correct idiom. E.g. We had an interval between two sessions.
