- GMAT Score:750
Hey guys..i used to visit this website a lot during my prepration time. Reading stories of all successful applicants motivated me. I thought, i should write my story here and if that helps anyone, my writing would not go waste. So, here we go. I wrote GMAT last week and got 750 (Q50 and V40). The preparation time was very tough for me. I had a relationship breakup during the preparation time and could not concentrate on studies. Besides, in this recession, I got laid off one day prior to my GMAT exam. I was going through emotional trauma and was not in any mood to take the exam on scheduled day. But, i just decided to go to the exam center anyway and then not to opt for exam score to be evaluated. During the whole exam, i was nervous, the questions (especailly in verbal) seemed more tough than i had prepared for. But, I chose to see my score and it was 750. I don't know how. I mean I didn't expect it..
My score in prep tests were following:
Prep software 1 : 660
MGMAT 1 : 600
MGMAT 2 : 630
MGMAT 3 : 670
MGMAT 4 : 690
MGMAT 5 : 730
MGMAT 6 : 690
Prep software 2 : 710
I don't say that the score 750 came out of fluke, but I was not expecting this score while taking the exam because of my mental state. Although, i had put a target of 760 when i had started the serious preparation.
The verbal seemed really tough. The passages were longer and had more questions than the number of RC questions in practise tests. RC had been my weakest link during whole preparation and more questions from this section had crushed me. Again, probably because I was nervous, I didn't see any known idiom or known pattern in sentence correction questions. For both of these sections, i chose the least incorrect answers instead of most correct answer.
I had been good in Quant in all tests and consistenly got a score of 50/51, so the score of 50 in final exam was not very satisfying. I was expecting 51. Generally, i used to finish whole quant section in less than 60 minutes. But, on the exam day, i was so nervous that first question itself took 10 minutes and i am not sure i got the right answer in that. Ultimately, i finished the whole section just before 75 minutes.
During the interval after quant, i was certain that i am not gonna a get a good score in quant and definitely not overall. But, I used to tell myself constantly during preparation that no matter what happens on the final day, I would see my score. Therefore, despite my thinking that the exam had not gone good, I opted for the score..and the rest is just some satisfaction. I haven't celebrated my score yet. Still recovering from layoff and the break up.
I didn't do any special preparation for GMAT. This site already has lot of good information about how to prepare for the GMAT. So, I am not gonna write much about that. Only step, which I did by myself was that I regularly browsed internet for articles on finance/astronomy/biology...I was very weak in RC and didn't like reading on computers..so i practised for RC by reading such boring articles on the internet
Hope it helps you. I am honored to be a part of this community and would like to thank you all. If you have any question, feel free to ask.
