The use of "should"

by awesomeusername » Sun Feb 15, 2009 10:20 am
It is expected that the advances in the production of high-temperature superconductors should increase the viability of so-called "maglev" trains that float on magnetic fields.

I know that "will" is a better choice, but why is "should" wrong?

It's redundant. You either say,

It is expected that the advances will increase the viability

OR

the advances should increase the viability

but not both, because then you're saying the same thing twice.
