by hitmewithgmat » Sun Feb 15, 2009 3:43 pm
According to scientists at the UC, the pattern of changes that have occurred in human DNA over the millennia indicate the possbility that everyone alive today might be descended from a singel female ancestor who lived in Africa sometime between 140,000 and 280,000 years ago.
A) indicate the possibility that everyone alive to day might be descended from a single female ancestor who
B) indicate that everyone alive today might possibly be a descendet of a singel female ancestor who had
C)may indicate that everyone alive today has descended from a single female ancestor who had
D)indicates that everyone alive today maybe a descendant of a single female ancestor who
E)indicates that everyone alive today might be a descendant from a single female ancestor who

Pattern of changes....is singular subject so it must take a singular verb.

Indicates is the right verb here.

So it is between D and E.

Descendant of is the correct Idiom.

Thus, D.

OA please....!

:) By that logic, I would rule out B, D & E for the word "singel" ;) I think it is a typo.

IMO D is the best answer!

A) indicate the possibility that everyone alive to day might be descended from a single female ancestor who--->Idiom
B) indicate that everyone alive today might possibly be a descendet of a singel female ancestor who had --->SV
C)may indicate that everyone alive today has descended from a single female ancestor who had-->SV
D)indicates that everyone alive today maybe a descendant of a singel female ancestor who-->Pattern(single)+indicates(single)
E)indicates that everyone alive today might be a descendant from a singel female ancestor who -->Idiom

Red-->Sub Verb
Idiom -->Descendant of

please tell me if the above reasoning is not correct

Thanks
Krishna

pattern...indicates is correct. (singular subject requires singular verb)
Descendant OF is correct idiom.
Descendant FROM is wrong.
Hence, D
