MBA with prior MBA

by mahesh7 » Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:17 pm
hi

I am looking for advise. I got part-time MBA from a local school several years ago. However, I feel that it was an MBA-lite and did not serve me well all these years. Now, I would like to get a real MBA from a top ranked school and possibly change my career track. However, several top ranked schools like Haas are prohibiting me from applying to MBA since I already hold an MBA. My dream for the past 3 years has been to do a real MBA from a top ranked school.

* What can I do?
* How can I convince schools like Haas that I want an MBA.
* Can I return my previous MBA to my old school? If so, how can I do that?

I have 15 years experience and in a management role. I would like to pursue EMBA with Haas or Wharton.

Please advise.

Thanks much for your help.

Dear MBA Aspirant,

Unfortunately, you cannot be awarded the same degree twice. I think you will have to consider other options if you feel you need to gain more education. Perhaps a MS program in Finance? or some executive education courses at some schools? It is highly unlikely a school in the US will allow you to enter its MBA program since you already have the degree.

Good luck,
Lisa

Lisa's right.........there are a few top ranked MBA programs that offer a Master in Management, which often is a one year program. That would be your best option of getting a first class education at a top ranked university with a prior MBA.

Might want to check out the follow programs:
https://mfe.haas.berkeley.edu/
https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/sloan/
https://www.anderson.ucla.edu/x17276.xml
https://www.marshall.usc.edu/msba/admissions.htm (Marshall has lots of other programs other than MBA, MAcc, Master in Real Estate, ect...)
https://www.seas.upenn.edu/profprog/emtm/
https://mitsloan.mit.edu/fellows/

you get the point.......good luck!
