Untimed GMAT

I may have an opportunity to take the GMAT untimed. Will the schools know about this? Or will they just receive my score and think that I took it like everyone else?

Great question--your the first person I've heard who has the opportunity to take the GMAT untimed.

I seem to recall somewhere that business schools will see that you've taken your test under special circumstances--the best way to confirm is to call your testing center and see what they say.

who knows your b.school might even waive the GMAT requirement for special circumstances.

Actually, I think for privacy concerns, they don't see that you had special circumstances. I think it would violate the federal law protecting people with disabilities.

Definitely call Pearson Vue to find out.

If I'm not mistaken they do not see this information and even if they did they cannot hold it against you...

Hey guys. They used to "flag" scores of SATs, GMATS, etc...but ever since a lawsuit in '03, they have ceased to flag scores notifying schools about a test taker using special circumstances.

They can however see MCAT and LSAT scores which can be "flagged"

I don't know for sure but would be surprised if they're still allowed to flag scores - as other posters have noted, I would think that would be considered discriminatory.

Bigger issue - start the application process right away if you may qualify for any kind of special timing on the test. It can take months to get approved and, in the meantime, you'll have to practice not knowing exactly what your test conditions will be like. The more time you have between when they tell you whether you're approved and when you take the test (so that you can study in a way that maximizes your particular timing), the better.

FYI it's pretty difficult to qualify. They are really stringent.

I have been diagnosed w/ an anxiety disorder by a several doctors for a couple of years now. By score changes by about 100 pts when i take the test timed vs untimed.

Can anyone guide me on how to proceed in regards to submitting a time waiver...where do I start? do i contact MBA . com? thnx

Hello everyone

I'm also considering to apply for additional time when taking the GMAT. Since February 2004 I have been suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and major depression disorder (MDD).

Some of the symptoms of my psychiatric disability are; intense heart beat, headache, chest pain, sweat profusely and poor concentration. Therefore, the mentioned symptoms will have a great impact on me when I'm taking the test, which means that it is almost impossible for me to successfully complete the GMAT exam without extra time. Since the GMAT exam focus significantly on reading skills and problem solving under time pressure, I will only be able to complete the exam if the requested accommodation is provided.

GOSH, it is so unfair that most American universities see the GMAT score as the most important factor for graduate admission. I wish it could be waived but I'm pretty sure it will not because the score is so important for graduate schools.
The GMAT has caused me a lot of trouble. I hope you get your requested accommodation. Good Luck!
