Percentage - Is the problem faulty?

The number of people who can vote for an election is 78% of the population. How many of them actually cast their vote?
1. The population of the town is 89,000.
2. 64% of the eligible men and 56% of the eligible women voted

• B
• C (your response)
• D
• E (correct answer)

Feedback: The data is not sufficient to answer the question, since the total number of men and women is unknown. The first statement gives the total population of the town, which by itself provides insufficient data. The next statement gives the percentage of men and women who voted but gives no indication about the actual number of men and women in the village. The correct answer is (E).

I don't get this explanation!
What i did was: 78% of 89,000 = eligible people.
64% and 56% of the eligible people are able to vote. So you have an answer using both I and II.

Enlighten me.

Dont get confused ..


What i did was: 78% of 89,000 = eligible people.
64% and 56% of the eligible people are able to vote. So you have an answer using both I and II.


Read the second Condition carefully

2. 64% of the eligible men and 56% of the eligible women voted

64% of eligible men....how many...we dont know

similarly 56% of what ???

So its E
