Online Accounting Class?

by bizzzschool » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:30 pm
Hi Stacy,

I had a quick question that I thought you might be able to help me with.

I got a D in accounting undergrad from UW-Madison (only grade below a C with a 3.2 average) and, therefore, I was thinking about re-taking an accounting class in order to improve my grade before applying to Business School for 2010.

My question is if I take an Undergrad Intro to financial Accounting (101) class to cover up my grade, do you think I would be OK doing the class online in a program such as this?

Taking an online class would help, as I have a full time job and getting to class some days could be challenging. Also, there is a cost benefit with an online class. Since I am just trying to show that I can do better in the class, would something like this be acceptable? Would it matter what online program I did? Would an in-person class be better?

Thank you for the help!

Dear bizzzschool,

I don't know that an online class versus attending a class matters so much. However, I wonder if that is really the best class to take as preparation for business school for you. I understand wanting to demonstrate you can do better in that particular course, but I think it is good to think about your situation from a broader perspective. If you feel that you need to demonstrate quantitative ability because you did not take many quantitative courses and did not do as well as you hoped on that section of the GMAT, then it might be a better option to take college algebra and calculus. If it is simply to brush up on your accounting, then that class is an appropriate choice.

Good luck,
Lisa
