I was wondering if you could answer two questions for me regarding age. First, in general, what age is considered to be too old to apply for full-time mba programs? I know ages of all types are considered however at what age does it start to be looked at negatively? Second, what age is looked at by business school committees, is it the age when you submit your application or is it the age when you begin your MBA program? Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Dear tim0thy,
When you see the average age on class profiles, it is the age of the student when they enter business school (usually as of Sept. 1). There is not a cutoff per se, but there will be concerns by the admissions committee for applicants older than 35 or so. The concern is more about why someone with that much experience would apply to a full-time program versus an executive program than it is about simply being too old. So if you will be in your mid-30's when you apply, you might want to explicitly address why a full-time program versus an executive program in your application.
Good luck,
Lisa
