Please evaluate my profile for MBA at Jones

1) GMAT 670 (Q 49, V 37)
2) Under Grad: BSC IT , University Position holder, Class topper
3) Grad : MBA HR : ICFAI Univ India, Class Topper
4) Experience 4 Years 6 month in HR, across industry and positions
5) In HR I have set up a HR system for a manufacturing firm in my first job. A profit center in second Job for a staffing firm, handled 2 mergers and HR generalist in a bank, currently working as Strategic HR at group level in an IT company

6) Vision : Integration of HR and financial deliverables, move to consultancy

7) Why Rice : Best finance program in texas, has consultancy as core concentration and I can still choose Finance electives

Please tell me about my chances of admission at Rice I am applying in round 2

Dear abhou80,

You note you already have a MBA, so you might not be able to apply for another one. Rice does not award someone the same degree. Before you proceed further, you need to find out if your degree is seen as equivalent to a US MBA. Depending on your coursework, it may or may not be the same. If it is not equivalent and you can apply, then you present a competitive profile for Rice. However, it is how well you present your case for admission that will get you a positive decision. You must present a strong rationale for why you want to go to business school, why Rice, why now and how your past experience plus a MBA make sense for your career goals. Likewise, you need to demonstrate a successful track record in your current career and leadership experiences/leadership potential.

Dear Lisa

Thanks a ton for your revert. I got my education credentials evaluate from WES and fortunately they have evaluated my MBA degree as Post Graduate study in management. I have asked them to send a copy of the report to Rice too. So I guess that it’s a good sign. I did my MBA with only HR electives and this time I want to focus on Consulting and Finance. I am only applying to Rice, and I want to give my application my best shot.

My research on Rice suggests that they don't take many interational students. My husband is a US citizen and has lived in houston all his life. I will be moving to US on a CR1 visa. Will that effect my application in any way

Your visa status does not necessarily affect the decision, but you need to determine if you will need to change visa status to F-1 in the event you are accepted. You will, however, be evaluated against the other international applicants so the competition is fierce. Be sure to present the strongest application possible to give yourself the best chance.

Dear Lisa

I hope you are having a great new year.

I finally submitted my Application at Rice, it got completed on Jan 7th. Actually One thing is bugging me, I was never involved in any community work, I was bluntly honest in my application and did not mention any. I am hoping that will not kill my application. Hope my GPA ( 3.9 in under grad and 3.87 in MBA) and good carrer graph will make up for it.

Can you please tell me, When can I expect a revert from Rice.

You will need to go back to Rice on when you might hear something. In the past, the admissions office has posted a schedule of when you will hear something by each application round. So, check the website and I think you will find the schedule.
