 Hi I am an Indian doing my undergrad degree in medicine from the best institute in the country.
Felt like giving the Gmat this year as was quite free this year, so prepared for around 4 months and B-) managed to get a handsome 770 !

For preparation, I did the official guides and a lot of simulation tests besides free resources available on the net.

ya i m from aiims final year mbbs. whats ur name buddy?

Btw happy nu year 2009 to you all.
For preparation, i initially really did not have a clue on how to get started as i did not have access to the net back then. But then my senior told me about the official guide and gave me some free softwares to practise, so i did OG 11 once and bookmarked the tough questions, especially in the sentence correction part. Then I did the Og 10 from the soft copy as it had much more ques than OG 11. Also, i did Kaplan software questions. That was pretty much all i had done till 1 month before the exam.

A month before the exam, i stumbled onto a lot of resources via the god of all things, the world wide web, like (sorry, such as :D ) this website. And frankly, i was quite bewildered by the amount of preparation that could still be done. So i worked quite hard (3-4 hours a day) for around 20 days and then redid the kaplan tests and some of the free tests available on the net. I kept a log of the scores i had been scoring and by the end, i got a 740 on the gmac test.

Finally, the day before the test, i watched a couple of good movies and went to the test center in a very relaxed mood taking a couple of chocolates and juice with me. The essays turned out to be of a moderate difficulty and the test also proved to be not so hard. Since I had done a lot of simulations, I did not have a trouble concentrating in the verbal section where i did exceptionally well as earlier i used to get below 40 scores on verbal.

All the best to all of you who are appearing for the Gmat.

GMAT SCORE IS ONLY 10 % OF YOUR APPLICATION....

So probably work on your extra curricular!! ( Non academics )

Yeah, why not! you certainly has chance to get into top b-schools. But there are factors other than GMAT perhaps as important as GMAT which b-schools consider while scrutinising all applications.
Factors such as Work-experience, managed leadership roles, undergrad GPA, recommendation letters (mostly from persons you worked with & not from college professors), & essay questions.

Have your profile assessed. You can check(& read) our MBA Admission forums & also ask our resident experts queries by starting thread.

I have never seen 770 guys not getting admission at place of their choice...he is already from the best institute...in my opinion his 90% for the best institutes is done...in remaining 10%...5% we can contribute by providing link to courses he is looking into...and 5% he needs to work hard to his profs to get a good recco....done...

I actually have seen few people with 750+ score (infact few with 770 marks) from top institutes (IITs?) rejected... :(
As I said GMAT is not the only factor...

Yeah, majhuna we can provide some links. I know some MBA program do have sp. hospital management programs with MBAs..

Its rare for 780 not to get admit though accept some institutes may reject..on another similarly flawed feauture..I have a case in point..i wrote GATE sometime back and was in 98%tile...out of 5IIT's in first round I was turned down by all but in same year in second round I was asked by all of them to join...
this guy has another brilliant feature...if compared with IIT'ians(I mean btechs only) its kind of Sachin scoring a hundread in a tigt match...but for an medico to cross 50 in math( I know their verbal will be similar to us) is really something like agarkar scoring a 100 that too in a difficult situation....
that said, he asked for a course of hospital mgmt, i cant help him out, those who know please update him...
