So the first faced must be SIMPLE PAST and second faced must be in PAST PERFECT

If my logic is right, the answer should be A

I think the first faced must be PAST PERFECT and second faced must be SIMPLE PAST.

No in the E option which is correct it still is correct form

past perfect + simple past

had has already come before the subject.
