440 to 500 by tomorrow?

by beachbum23 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:25 am
Hey everyone.
I found out I had to take the GMAT a little less than a month ago.
I have until March 1st to get my score on record. I need at least a 500.

I've been studying the Kaplan guide for the past three to four weeks. I registered for my test and it is tomorrow.

Earlier this week I took the GMATPREP test just to see how I would do. I got a 440 (25, 25) To be honest I think I can do much better. I finished each section with more than 15 - 20 minutes left and guessed on most of the Data Sufficiency and Reading Comp questions. Those are definitely my weaknesses.

After taking the test I have started practicing the Official Guide 11th Edition. I have to take my test tomorrow. Do you think I can go from a 440 to a 500? Are there any tips you can give me for tomorrow? I've been paying extra special attention to the Data Sufficiency but it seems like the questions in the books are much easier than the one's I see online or on the software.

I really don't want to have to take it again if I don't have to. I would be happy with a 510 or higher. I'm not wishing for an unrealistic score.

Any help is appreciated.

I took the gmatprep practice test the day before my test and on the actual test I did 50 points better. So it's definitely possible (simply based on chance) that your score could increase, although I've also heard of decreasing scores. But if you don't want to rely on chance, I would definitely work problems in the middle of the OG sections. For instance, go to the data sufficiency questions and start working problems numbered 60 or so. That way you work on problems that will challenge you. It may be beneficial for you (if you're really in a time crunch tonight) to study the answers to questions without even doing the questions. I found this helpful because I could figure out the method to solving the problems without wasting time trying to figure a method myself.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. My friend just took her test the other day and went up sixty points. I know its possible. These stupid data sufficiency problems kill me everytime. I overthink all of them. :/

Hey there
I hope its possible!! I just took a GMATPrep yesterday and got a 440 (25q 25v as well) And my test is this saturday and i need a 500 (the school is waiting for my score so rescheduling for further down the road is not possible). My plan is 2 do as many questions in the OG as i can. I may take off 2 days this week.

to anyone: if i take 2 days off this week from work would it be a bad idea to take off thursday and friday? cuz they say not to study the day before the test. So maybe wed and thurs. Any opinions?

I am just curious, which school are you applying to? The score is bit on the low end, and I was wondering if you were applying for a specific program that does not care much for the GMAT score all that much.
