This sentence has compound subject
powerful styles and his choice of subject, so we need plural verb
this rules "A" and "C" out.
I ruled "D" and "E" mainly because of perfect tense. I don't think perfect tens use is justified above.
Finally "his" times is compared with "ours", hence the need of simple past with simple present.
