IMO B

Subjunctive mood, so that should be used, B uses it correctly.

B

Check for parallelism

X rather than Y

Pick the choice that uses the following structure:

Join to prevent rather than continue to be victimized. (Join ll continue, to prevent ll to be victimized)

Youll be left with B and C

Since the president is trying to convince (hes hoping for something ie we need subjunctive and hence 'that'). So pick B over C. Also GMAT prefers 'rather than' over 'instead of'.

Why is E wrong here ? Since its a subjunctive form, then the base form of the verb should follow "Convince" rather than "Should..+ verb + Construction".

IMO B

Subjunctive mood, so that should be used, B uses it correctly.

a subjunctive mood takes a base word...
."should" cannot be used in subjunctive mood...

Why can't 'should' be used in a subjunctive mood.

Giving a command also comes under the category of subjunctive.

For instance the following construction is subjunctive.

I demand that you should join the army. OR I demand that you (should) return my money. (should is understood in 2nd case).

Plus in this sentence we use the base form of the verb 'join' after should, so why isnt this structure subjunctive.

Can you elaborate more on why this sentence is not subjunctive?

Okie,

Which word in this sentence makes you feel the subjunctive modd

Ranuekk is right, we never use "should" in subjunctive...Check subjunctive cases in OG...OA does stay away from "should" and "is"

gosh I thought convince that they should join forces is subjunctive.

So this sentence I demand that you should join the army will be incorrect in GMAT?
