Please explain my score

did i really get a 700? how could i get 90th percentile if i got a 79th and 83rd percentile in quant and verbal?

GMAT is tricky man.

Okay your overall score percentile tells you that ONLY 10% of the test takers are within 83 percentile verbal and 79 percentile math.

Remember there are many people who are good at one part and who are really bad at another. In your case..you rock! Because not only did you kick some Verbal ass but also tamed the Math section so you are a member of 700 club.

Dude,

You scored 79th percentile in Quanta section, that means you are ahead of 79% of the guys in Quanta. 83 percentile in verbal means only 83% percentage of GMATters could reach upto your level.

A little about your score of 700 with 90th percentile. Your overall score of 700 places you among the top 90 percentage of guys who took the GMAT in the past. Also, 90 percentile is not the average (or mean) of your quanta and verbal scores. Hope this helps.
