so in inequalities we take the most restrictive of the high/low ranges?

i had chosen E because i assumed 24 < x < 52 in C.

Looks simple but a very nice question indeed (to refrsesh us on some basic concepts)

Is 26 < x < 49 ?

1) 30 < x < 52

2) 24 < x < 42


Is x > 26 but <49

Stmt I

Sufficient to say 26<x (lower limit)but not x<49

INSUFF as a whole

Stmt II

24 < x < 42

sufficient to say x<49(upper limit) but not 26<x

INSUFF as a whole

Stmt I and II together
We can most defnitely say 26 < x < 49

pose the same question to you as i posed to BM, where am I going wrong when I assume the following from the info provided in both statements? -

24 < x < 52

That's right Niraj. If x is defined to be between 10 and 20, and a further restriction is posed where 13<x<17, then you are sure that x will never be 11, 12, 13, 17, etc.
