Can somebody explain the below usage ?

NOUN + BE-VERB + NOUN/ADJECTIVE

The examples given are below , but the point was not really very clear -

For example:
The change was good for me.
The change was a good one for me.
The change was an important step for me in my life.

BUT NEVER
The change was when I came to the US.
