I chose D. because in choice E the language is extreme: ultimately impossible, but this is the answer!

I would go with E..As pointed out earlier, the language is bit extreme but thats exactly what is suggested by the author, twice, in the paragraph....
The author doesnt deny the possibility of reconstructing the historic events but is sure that these are not the ONLY way in which the authenticity of the episode can be verified...wats the OA?

I would also go with E coz I feel that D is too extreme... The author never says that Archaeological record is not an appropriate data for reconstructing historic data but in the last paragraph the author mentions it very clearly that he is a little skeptical about the hypothesis and says that the hypothesis might or might not be correct...
