I read somewhere that GMAT does not like/considers incorrect the usage of prepositions to end the question statements.

which of the following is correct/recommended

Whom did you give the book to?
or
To whom did you give the book?

Whom did you give the book to? is correct usage.

Could you quote the source of this information (that GMAT does not like/considers incorrect the use of prepositions at the end of question statements) ?

I'd like to recommend an Oxford Dictionary article to you on this subject. I think that should clarify all your doubts on the subject.

In lieu of the above link and the the debate which goes on for the preposition en, it looks GMAT will never make that as the main cracking point for a question.
