OG 12 HARDER?

by Marshall22 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 2:19 pm
Hello everyone,

Has anyone noticed that OG 12's level of difficulty is alot higher than OG11?

For example:

1. DS gets alot tricky from problem 80 onwards ...

2. CR has some analyze the argument Questions that are the toughest I have seen from problem 75 onwards...

3. RC .. the new passage added about telephone xchange is hard to understand and digest ! Much harder than any on OG 11

Even when i read the DS explanation they are hard to understand for some problems! I saw one geometry problem that the explanation was so complicated (its around problems 95 - 115) i dont think any could finish it in time on the real gmat... it involved a triangle i think.

GMAC Says the questions are organized in order of difficulty,

DO U GUYS THINK SO? some DS Problems btw problems 80 and 100 seem extremely challenging ... a 700+ level I suspect?

or Does that mean the real GMAT has just gotten harder?

your advice and thoughts? any ppl taken the real gmat this week?

I didn't do all the problems in the 2 books but did at least half in each book and they seemed to be on the same level to me. I also took the real exam today and it seemed a little harder in quant section but the same in V.

GMAC Says the questions are organized in order of difficulty,
I also noticed that the CR Boldfaces are very hard. I did the questions by type (strengh, weaken, etc.) and I was having an 80% hit rate but when I started the analyze the argument Qs my hit rate dropped to 50%.

Where did you find that GMAC says that the questions are organized in order of difficult ? Do you mean only the quant questions or the verbal part as well ?

check out the book cover of the og12 .. it says so on it ... and read the intro
for quant and verbal...

also I agree with you ... from problem 75 onwards ... i missed some of the boldfaced questions... they are tricky!

check out problem 109 and problem 89 and 97 for DS in quant og 12..

109 is a pain ! That problem should be at the end of the book as it is real hard !

Yes I would say OG 12 is a little harder than OG 11 but also more representative of the actual test. I also found GMAT prep software harder than OG 12......and about the same standard as the real thing.

benisleeping...

hehe i found gmat prep way easy ... i did know about 4 or 3 questions that i saw in og ... but i dont know .. maybe because i usually do OG when am sleep deprived ... and so it looks harder? Sleep deprevision is a simulation for stress in the real test lol ;P

In the math part, problems from no.90 onwards were certainly tougher. In the Verbal part, I found the critical reasoning problems tougher from no. 75 onwards. I was getting a 85% - 90% hit rate, but ended up spending 3 minutes on the question which I don't think should happen on the real gmat. One particularly enjoyable problem in the math section was the second to last geometry problem asking you identify the numbers of triangles that can be formed with a set of co-ordinates. I figured it out but it was certainly a problem I would have freaked out with on the real gmat.
