RC length vs time

by djaytg » Wed Feb 13, 2013 9:36 am
I read on a website that there will be 4 RC passages on the real GMAT (1 Short 2 Medium 1 Long OR 1 Short 1 Medium 2 Long )
Now from the Official guides
Short passages means 30-40 lines
Medium passages means 45-55 lines
Long passages means 60-75 lines
I usually take 6-7 min for short and medium passages and around 7-8 min for long passages(for 3 questions)
I recently gave MGMAT CAT where i got 4 passages of 58 78 55 80 lines
(2 medium 2 long)
I wanted to know is this what i have to expect on the real GMAT?
I was at 90 percentile till 31st question(had about 14 min for the last 10) and came down to 74 percentile because of 80 line passage between 32 - 41(3/4 questions incorrect)
So can anyone please shed some light on how long will the passages be on the real GMAT?

The length of passages does not necessarily have to reflect their difficulty level so it is a better idea to focus on improving reading speed and the ability to tackle different question types in RC than concentrate on the number of lines of each passage.
