help for Manhattan SC problem

Incorrect: A venomous snake designated the emblem of the rebellion by the insurgency.

Correct: venomous snake was designated the emblem of the rebellion by the insurgency.

Reason for explaining the correction is that original is a fragmant with designated as past participle, add form of the verb 'to be' to fix it) I am not clear with it. Please help.

DESIGNATED = is the past participle form of the verb DESIGNATE .

A Past particle is formed by adding - en OR - ed to the verb .

TO BE form of the verb + past participle forms the passive voice .

Hence the sentence here is in passive voice which is correct .

To Be form of verb are IS , WAS , ARE etc .

Replace the verb 'designate' with 'name' and see whether the active voice could be used

A venomous snake designated the emblem of the rebellion by the insurgency.
does it not appears that the snake did all the designing not the insurgents ?
without even a punctuation it seems like that, till it is corrected by
venomous snake was designated the emblem of the rebellion by the insurgency.

PS either ways it is the devil's work.
