Need help in verbal

by sabiha » Thu Jun 17, 2010 5:45 am
Hi,

I am just a few days away from writing my GMAT exam. I have worked with Kaplan books and thereafter I took OG 11. I did take about 2 tests in between my prep and was able to score about 650 (GMATPrep and Kaplan).
I was not having much of problem in any section except for SC, which I worked upon and managed to get right as well. I started taking regular tests about 3 days back and my verbal score is constantly falling down. It is not just SC but at place CR and atleast 1 RC passage which I am completely getting wrong. My score has fallen down to 610! I was hoping to see an improvement in my score in the final days but I am completely thrown out.
I am getting really nervous because my test date is approaching. Please guide how should I counter this problem.

Thanks

Hey Dude,
YOu know you have achieved score in kaplan test which even gmat expert who have got 700+ in catual gmat will agree that its tough to get 650 score in kaplan.because they are toughest of all prep exams level.
your only problem was SC which you have worked on.
So if you really want to know what you should do
my personal tought would be 2 complete days of no study not even thinking about GMAT
After that hit books and whateever notes you have and revise it.
then give 1 more prep exam and go for your GMAT
you are done with your preparation .
now you just need to have mental preparation

just keep on thinking about exams where you got 650+ and keep saying you will do good
Cheers

Thanks! That is really encouraging, but what I have heard recently is that GMAT is getting even more tough than what we see in Kaplan tests. Scores like 610, 620 do not put me in a good place and that is what bothers me. 650 score was about 3 weeks ago! Present day I am only 600 someone. Definitely need to get better...

Be careful that your familiarity with the test isn't making you careless -- are you spending the same time and care with each question that you used to? Or is your comfort with the test causing you to skim question stems and passages?

Also, as everyone else is saying, worrying about it will only make it worse. Go back and review some tests you've taken before and do some questions to rebuild your confidence, taking care to read question stems carefully.
