HELP! Inconsistent scores

I have been preparing for the GMAT through the 60-day study guide and will be taking it in 9 days.

So far, my CAT scores have been all over the place...
1. GMAT Prep #1: 690 (Q44, V40)
2. GMAT Prep #1: 720 (Q48, Q41)
3. GMAT Prep #2: 720 (Q47, Q42)
4. GMAT Prep #2: 610 (Q44, V30)
5. Veritas Prep: 730 (Q47, V43)
6. Manhattan: 590 (Q38, V33)

I'm not sure what's contributing to these inconsistent scores... has anyone else had this sort of experience? Suggestions for preparing over the next 9 days to make sure I won't hit a low?

Hi,

in my experience your score will be closest to the GMAT prep exams, which seem fine except for 1 verbal. In the next 9 days I would focus on my test taking skills. Take practice exams at the time your exam is scheduled. Focus on your verbal if you feel that is weaker than your quant. Most importantly relax leading up to the test day so that you aren't burnt out!

Hi tjambaldorj,

Variations in practice CAT scores can be due to a variety of reasons, so I'm hoping that you can answer a few questions about how you've been studying:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) each time?
2) What time of day did you take each of these CATs?
3) It appears that you've taken some of these CATs more than once. Is that true?
4) Have you ever taken a CAT within 2 days (give or take) of taking another CAT?
5) Did you take these CATs under test-like conditions (quiet room, minimal distractions, etc.)?
6) Did you do anything unrealistic during these CATs (listen to music, eat/drink, pause the test, take a phone call in the middle of it, etc.)?

Hi,

We feel you have scored pretty consistently in all your attempts except for the 590 and 610 ones.Right now you should simply focus all your energies on getting a high GMAT score. Try to identify any gap areas.When you got scores of 610 and 590, how long had you studied? The point is that since you have been able to get a score as high as 730, you already seems well sorted and ready to take on GMAT.

For these last few days, just give a few mock tests. It doesn't matter whether they are new or older ones. While you give a mock test, make sure you spend double the amount of time in analyzing your performance in the test. Just go through each and every question and make a note of how you could have attempted a particular question in a better, smarter and a faster way.

Keep your eyes on the goal, stay focused and do your best. Also, remember that it is never over until it is over.Wish you the best.
