Query regarding Parallelism

by gmatjeet » Fri Dec 31, 2010 8:10 am
Hi All,

I am confused about the below funda about parallelism and how to decide on this:

In a sentence when we apply parallelism , sometimes some words are not repeated but assumed. ex:

Ron hates both those who are popular and those who are not. -> Here popular is not repeated !!

Can some one explain, how and when can we decide to drop a word and not repeat it in parallelism.

Thanks in advance.

More specifically, this phenomenon of leaving out some words is called Ellipsis in English Grammar parlance.

Would suggest you google this word and do some reading, rather than I typing out all the information that is already present on the net.

If you have any specific questions that you are stuck with, would be happy to help.
