The Federalist papers, a strong defense of the United States Constitution and important as a body of work in political science as well, represents the handwork of three different authors.

A) and important as a body of work in political science as well, represents
B) as well as an important body of work in political science, represent
C) and also a body of work of importance in political science is representing
D) an important body of work in political science and has been representative of
E) and as political science an important body of work too, represent

OA after some discussion. This sentence might have been discussed beforebut thought of re-posting so that a new concept(for me at least) that is tested on this can be revisited.

I will go with option B.

Reason for selecting B:

Federal Papers is plural, so cannot have 'represents', should be 'represent' -> Option A out
Federal papers represent something, so should be using simple present 'represent' -> Drills down to option B and E

Between B and E:
Per option E -> Federal Papers ..... and as political science ... -> Here federal Papers cannot be Political Science. Also " .... important body of work too", here word 'too' is unncesessary.

Please correct me if my undersanding is wrong. Thanks

Subject Federalist Papers--> plural
Verb has to be plural

A. represents is singular. It has to be changed to represent. INCORRECT

B. use of represent is the correct Subject-Verb agreement. The use of Comma before represent seperates the subordinate clause with the main clause. The two parts of the subordinate clause are parellel. CORRECT

C. This is a fragment. Does not complete the main clause. Breaks the rules of parallelism as well. INCORRECT

D. 'An' here, if anything, refers to United States Constitution which is not the authors intention. INCORRECT

E. Awkward construction. 'as political science' directly refers to Fedralist Papers as if Fedralist Papers || political science. This is INCORRECT.

I am glad that you guys are hitting right on spot with a slight "MISS" . So this the reason why I wanted to discuss this sentence.

Concept wise "Federalist Papers" is SINGULAR and NOT PLURAL. I can imagine your shrink-ed eyebrows :)

Let me tell you why. According to the OA explanation(Verbal review - 101 page 315) the work is sometimes referred by the title. Title is singular as used above.

If you look at the question it's "Federalist papers". Here Federalist papers is PLURAL !!!
The fact that "papers" is NOT CAPITALIZED indicates that it is intended as a descriptive reference to collection of papers, not a title. Definitely the answer (which most of you have chosen correctly) needs a plural verb and hence option B is the correct answer.

I saw this "CAPITALIZION" concept for the first time, so wanted to discuss.
