Please help in the following question:-


Designed by a team of engineers at Jet Propulsion Laboratories, the new buoys will be deployed throughout the world's oceans and will be capable to register shifts in ocean temperature by as little as one degree Celsius

A) be capable to register shifts in ocean temperature by as little as
B) be capable of registering ocean temperature shifts by little as
C) be capable of registering shifts in ocean temperature by as little as
D) have the capability that register ocean temperature shifts by
E) have the capability that register shifts in ocean temperature as little as

OA after some discussions.

by as little as -> Correct.

In D and E that nonsensically refers to capability, implying capability will register the temperature.

I think C is correct.

A is incorrect because 'capable to' is in correct in this context.

someone is capable of doing something or someone has capabilities to do something seems to be correct.

Vinni, I hope it helps why C is better than A

Hi Rajeev,

Didn't saw your post above.

As you said, It is incorrect in this context. I was thinking "capable of" as an idiom. The example you have mentioned shows the difference between "a noun" and "an adjective"

Is "to used with a noun" such as "capability to" and "of used with an adjective" such as "capable of" ?

Please clarify.

IMO A is the best option.
be capable of registering doen't sound right.

It's a matter of idioms: the expression "capable of"� is correct, while "capable to"� is not.
