Which one of these two sentences is correct (if any)?

1. If the deposit step fails to properly start, then an alarm will appear on the screen.
2. If the deposit step fails to properly start, an alarm will appear on the screen.

Both are correct.
"Then" can be omitted.

Both are correct....Then is implied in the second clause.

IF THEN Rules:
IF you run, you will reach
IF you ran, you would reach
IF you had run, you would have reached.

Let me rephase. If both sentences were on the GMAT, which one would be correct?
From what I had learned during my brief GMAT studies, the sentence using the word "then" would be incorrect as it is too "wordy".
