Right approach for CR?

by monusangeeta » Thu Aug 05, 2010 6:46 am
Dear Experts,

I am confused between strategy to handle CR Qs by OG and Powerscore CR bible, which many GMAT takers have recommended for CR. As per OG, you should read question stem first and then the actual passage, whereas Powerscore suggests exactly opposite of it.

I am getting good beating in CR, hence looking for suggestions. Can someone please help here.

I recommend following the OG approach. That way you don't waste time reading the passage, then the question, then going back to the passage again to isolate the specific issue. If you read the question stem first, then your reading of the passage will be more efficient and will ultimately save you precious time on the test.

I agree with Andrea. Reading the passgae first and then going to question, will lead you to go back and re-read the passage.

I would suggest below approach for CR.

- Read the Question stem , but dont go to answers etc yet.
- Identify the Q type ( Weaken, Strengthen, Assumption, Inference etc )
- Read the passage carefully.
- Apply the techniques and prephrase the answer in simple sentence.
- Go to answer choices.

Hope this helps.
