the "was" in non underlined portion is unecessary.
also we need a "the" before most intense since Camille for the superlative.

the form is "becoming x and y", x and y must be parallel in form


A seems best.

I was thinking (C), because of the paralleism, but the "of" seemed kind of weird, because Camille really isn't from 1969, it happened during 1969.

My gut says (A), though I'm not far enough along in my SC studies to explain exactly why :P.

umaa, yes i think we need "the most intense" for parallelism. guess none of the choices are supoosed to be correct as is - the original poster claims to have tweaked the question to trick/trap us!

Uimma, scooby,

Yes I did tweak it. The idea was to show that the second the is *not necessary* when both words are going to modify in a similar fashion. So In "the most frightening and most intense since Camille in 1969" the second the can be dropped without broking parallelism. I made the choice having the repeated but change to an incorrect preposition of, while the situation requires A, i.e. in.

so A will be the OA for this Q.

Take away: I am not sure, just thought of tweaking the Q based on OG explanation for option C for this Q. Please see OG explanation for option C for this Q to see how the second the can be dropped.h

Firts of all since the 1969 there were a lot of them, so we should choose the most intence, A,B,E are out.
Second after 1969, which had Camile is wrong because since 1969 corectly indicates the time period.
