experts / members suggestion required

by kishokbabu » Sun Jan 01, 2012 8:51 pm
Yesterday, i took my GMAT prep-2 and got the score of 550 (Q-44,V-22). My actual GMAT is on Jan-14, only two weeks more.

I have decided to study the OG12,OG 10 questions and OG verbal review, reviewing the error log.

My weekness lie in verbal and in DS problems,

RC is the biggest weekness to me. I took the GMAT Prep similar to the original test, by taking AWA and maintaining the same time gap, but,I am really exhausted and iam not concentrating when i am taking my verbal.

Since the below questions are repeated qns in this forum, but experts can help based on the individual performance of each student.

My questions are as follows,

1. Whether i can improve atleast 100 points in two weeks, (so that i can get a score of 650)?

2. If then what kind of study strategy shall i follow for the coming two weeks

I request the members also to help me who had the same kind of problems/situations similar to my situation and who had succeeded.

100 points in two weeks is rare, though of course it's possible.

I tell people this often, but it's true: consider altering your RC strategy. One student I worked with got a huge increase in his RC accuracy by reading the first and last sentence of every paragraph in the passage BEFORE he read the whole passage.

With DS, sadly, the main plan is likely what you are already doing: practice, and get in the habit of marking off answers as you eliminate them so that your guessing (when needed) is at least accurate.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your valuable feedbck,

Regarding RC, your opinion is correct, whenever i am frustrated with the difficult passage or if i don't understand with difficult verbose passage, i simply follow this technique.

Right now i am practising for DS problems,

I know very well that 100 points in two weeks is a very difficult task, but anyhow i have to pay 100 % hard work or smart work to achieve my target with some efficient study strategy.

Pls suggest me some good study strategy for this two weeks,( study strategy like whether i have to do 10 or 20 problems in my week areas and reviewing the error log and making notes of my frequent mistakes- whether this is sufficient or something else)

Thanks,

The short answer is "do everything you can."

Basically, do at least two full-length practice tests between now and your Test Day, and no more than four. Review every question you do (on the tests and in practice) even if you get them right, to make sure you understand the issues fully. The regular full tests will give you continued practice on your stronger areas, so your other practice can be on weak spots. There is no "magic number" for how many questions you should be doing per day, and it is better to have more sessions that are shorter than to drive yourself crazy with long ones. Work until you are tired/frustrated/losing focus, take a break for something fun, then go back to it.
