I can get started but I can't get to the OA you listed...hopefully someone else can take it all the way home...

1) Tells us that x=2 or x=2/3

|x|=2|x-1| ---> |x|/|x-1|=2
so...
x / (x+1) = 2 so x=2 or...
x / (x+1) = -2 so x=2/3 -- INSUF

2) I think this tells us that x != 3, which is also INSUF

1+2 Together I still can't choose 2 or 2/3

Where am I off?

My take is E.

1) |x| = 2|x-1| --> 2|x-1| <1> upon substituting 1 , 2 wont be able to get any conclusion. Insufficient.

2) INSUFFICIENT.

I dont think combining 1 & 2 , we can reach to any conclusion.

am i right ?

hi erjamit..

there is a problem with the sum...

ITs (1) |x + 1| = 2|x - 1|


and not |x| = 2|x - 1|

Please type the sum correctly so that others dont waste their time.

I had copied the exact question from the old GMAT sets which I have. I know time is preciou and in no way I want to waste it. Also, I was solving the same question.
