Elsa paid $20 for her groceries.
E = 20.
Carolyn's groceries cost 50% more than Elsa's groceries.
C = E + 50% = 20 + .5(20) = 30.
Carolyn's groceries cost 5/6 as much as Bryan's groceries.
Since C = (5/6)B, we get:
30 = (5/6)B
B = 180/5 = 36.
Thus:
B+C+E = 36 + 30 + 20 = 86.
The correct answer is
D.
