Wiith one vertex at the center and other two touching the circle, the triangle can only be formed in the semi-circle.
Therefore, base= radius = 1, height = radius = 1
greatest possible area = 1/2* b * h = 1/2*1*1 = 1/2

I think its been discussed in couple of posts as well ....
Triangle area inscribed in a circle is greatest when it is a right angled triangle ! ...
So when we conceptualize the diagram ....
height will be 1 and base will be 1 .... so 1/2 *1*1=1/2
