Hello,

Can you please evaluate my profile and let me know if my target schools are reasonable and what I'll need to do to improve my application?

GMAT: 690 (Q46,V38)

Education:
- CFA Level 3 Candidate
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering at a good Canadian university.
- Six-Sigma Management Methodology - Green Belt Associate Certification
- Awarded a scholarship for the CFA L1 exam

GPA: havnt calculated my GPA, but i have an average of about 70% (engineering is extremely intense at my university and a 70% is considered pretty decent. I guess i could elaborate this point further in an optional essay on my applications?)

Demographic: 25/M/Canadian of East Indian origin living and working in Bahrain

Experience:
- 1 year with a Big4, senior consultant in the transaction advisory department in Bahrain (promoted within first year)
- 2 years with a Big4, associate in the assurance services department in Bahrain (2 promotions in 2 years)
- 1 year with General Electric, electrical engineering intern in Canada

Extra curricular: charity work, marathon participant, silver medal at chess competition, community involvment, organizing social events at work - nothing too out of the ordinary to be honest.

Im thinkin about applying for September 2013, so I should have got another year of experience by then. Should i consider writing the GMAT for the second time or should i focus on applications? im fairly confident i could bring it up to around 720-730 if i put in a lot of effort.

Im currently interested in (no particular order):
- Ivey(Canada)
- Schulich(Canada)
- Rotman(Canada)
- Fuqua/Duke(USA)
- Haas/Berkely(USA)
- Johnson/Cornell(USA)
- Yale(USA)
- Booth/Chicago(USA)
- Tepper/Carnegie Mellon(USA)
- Stern/NYU(USA)
- Ross/Michigan(USA)
- INSEAD(France/Singapore)
- IE(Spain)
- NUS(Singapore)

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks a ton!

The key is balance if you want to get into some of the top schools on your list... For most you will be good, but you want to pull your scores above the 80th percentile in both for the schools that are in the top 10...

Good luck.

Honestly, your profile looks pretty good. Except for INSEAD, Stern and Booth, all other schools can be targeted with your profile and 690 on GMAT. For these three, we would recommend pushing the score to a 720+.

Ample international experience of developed markets and well as Gulf and good brand names on your resume will help. CFA level 3 and Six sigma again will help you to differentiate yourself and position yourself as a person who believes in contibous skill building.

Agree, you extra currics might appear average but focus on the sports/ athletics thing so that you can add another dimension to your profile.

According to us, Canadian schools, Ross, NUS, Cornell and your best bets.

Feel free to contac tus for any queries.

I would recommend your retaking the GMAT since you (1) are fairly sure you can get a 720-730 and (2) a higher score would increase your admissions chances at Fuqua, Haas, Johnson, Yale, Booth, NYU Stern, and INSEAD. Note you can still apply with your present score, but a higher one would increase your chances.

In addition make sure you substantiate with metrics as much of your work experience impact as possible and try to show an increase in the scope and scale of your responsibilities/impact with your last two jobs even though in different companies.

Good luck,
