Hi,

My name is Akhilesh and I am 26 years old from India. I want to apply for an MBA Program starting FALL 2012. Please find my Profile below and i need your help to evaluate it. This would really help me in planning further.

Name : Akhilesh Bhatti

Age : 26 years

Work Experience : 4 years at the time of application and 5 years at the time of joining
school. Out of 4 years I have 2 years of International Experience
(Germany).I have always been a top performer in my job and fast growing in
my career path.

GMAT : 650

GPA : 3.5

Apart from this I would have very strong Recommendations from my Managers and Peers.

Can you please give me an Idea by looking at above numbers what might be my chances in the following schools:

1. Stanford

4. Cornell
5. Tuck

Can you please evaluate my profile and tell me what would be my chances in the above mentioned schools. This would really help me.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your post. You work experience sounds great and is certainly on par with what the schools on your list are looking for, however, your GMAT score is below average at all the schools on your list. While the GMAT isn't the only factor in the decision making process, it is an important indication of your potential success in a program. When an applicants has a GMAT score that is lower than the school average it is necessary to make up for this weakness in other parts of your profile. While you do have great international experience, it may not be enough to compensate for your score.

At this point in time I think it might be best for you to consider retaking the GMAT and applying to the schools on your list with a stronger score (at least 700) in round 2. I think you'll be much more competitive applying with a stronger score in round 2 vs your current score in round 1.

Regards,

Stacey

Hi Stacy,

Thanks for your response. I appreciate it a lot. One thing more i wanted to tell you that I had given my GMAT in 2006 and applying now. It was in my plan to apply after getting some work experience.

Can you please throw some light like how many percent chances do i have in getting any of these schools.

This will clearly help me in evaluating my position.

Thanks a lot again for your help on the same.

Thanks
Akhilesh

Hi,

First off, have you checked to see if your score is still valid? Most schools have a 5 year expiration rule - so your GMAT may be out of date and you may be required to retake it. I strongly suggest you check with each school on your list before you begin your applications.

To be honest, given the information you have shared, I do not think you have a competitive profile for admission at the schools on your list. I encourage you to look at schools with a lower average GMAT - perhaps tops 25 programs would best suit you.

Regards,

Stacey
