Idiom change

by pdshah » Tue Nov 01, 2011 3:21 am
So, I heard about the idiom change from other sites and found a sticky of official response from GMAC on this forum (thanks Eric). I did few more searches and I feel like my question is not answered so here goes:

Is idiom phased out or not? Do I need to memorize the list of idioms or not?
Official GMAC response says not to change the way of the study; it suggests that American centric idioms will not be used but I doubt they were ever used in the past. Does this mean idiom question will keep on coming in GMAT? OG 12 has about 20-25% idiom questions, will the future test have lesser or same?
I am trying to get away with not memorizing my idioms. Please help.

I actually struggle a lot with Idioms. Hence, i asked someone who cracked a 700+ and hated SC like me. He advised me not to stress it too much and work on basic grammar rules!!

Hard to say without hard data. I think you will get less of a return on your investment from memorizing a list of idioms; it wouldn't surprise me if they revealed that they changed the test because of the number of people defeating a portion of the test through memorization.

Idioms are part of the AWA, of course, since that portion of the exam has a human reader.
