A. same
B. Introducing a new computer product or process by a year earlier
C. A year's advantage to introduce a new computer product or process.
D. To introduce a new computer product or process by a year earlier.
E. Being a year ahead in introducing a new computer product or process.

OA is D
Guys, what is the difference between B and D? Please help me out.

OA is Incorrect, It should be E.
This is similar question to one of GMAT PREP question(given below), for which correct answer was one that use being.


Simply because they are genetically engineered does not make it any more likely for plants to become an invasive or persistent weed, according to a decade-long study published in the journal Nature.
A) Simply because they are genetically engineered does not make it any more likely for plants to
B) because it is genetically engineered does not make a plant any more likely to

"by a year" is not idiomatic in B and D

'earlier' requires 'than' to be idiomatic

If D is the OA to this question, I respectfully disagree.

The meaning of A is unclear. What is a year advantage in a new computer product? Eliminate A.

The phrase by a year earlier is unidiomatic and lacks clarity, so I would eliminate B and D. What does it mean to do something by a year earlier?

In C, advantage to is unidiomatic. The correct idiom is advantage in.

Answer choice E has no grammatical error and conveys the intended meaning clearly, so I would choose E, regardless of the OA. Avoiding the word being is an issue not of grammar but of style. The errors in the other answer choices seem far more egregious.

Though B qnd D are wrong because of incorrect placement of "by a yar" , let's get back to the original question of the post.

Difference between B and :
B - > gerund phrase (plays rome of noun)
D -> Infinitive phrase (plays rome of noun too)

That means strcuturally both are correctly placed.

Meaning : The infinitive phrase is generally for intention or goal whereas gerun phrase can be a general statement as is the case here .

If there were no other error in B and D, B is the winner for conveying the meaning correctly.

If you still don't get it, do let me know .

E - > I personally find usage of "being" justified here. Rather it can be treated as an example in which usage of "being" is appropriate.
