Same as...as

[spoiler]Why is it correct to use "that" after "same as" in OA C? I thought the rule was "same as...as".
Can you please clarify?

massi I am not able to understand your question but I selected c as an answer based on POE
a is incorrect because of were
b had awkward construction same year of construction
d and e indicates that its the mark twain which reveals something rather than his letter, this changes the meaning.

Hi rupsk,

my question is based on the fact that I expected the form "same...as" and not "same...that"

So I expected to see correct answer C in this way:
"A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year AS The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published".

In fact, I eliminated C because I thought that the term "that" was a mistake there.

Can you please explain why "that" is correct"?

You can use that here as it is used in correct form. first it is not preceded by comma secondly it is necessary to write that as removing the word it will not make sense. So in all it is grammatically correct. And as i said in my previous reply that do not stick with the one answer in your mind that it should be used in this form only you need to check all answer and pick the most correct one. "Same as" is one of the form which one should use in this sentence but when it is used in the sentence you cannot make another grammatical mistake. Here you need to check other answers, do not reject any answer on the basis of as and that. If both seem grammatically correct then you can pick on basis of as and that. But that is not wrong as it specifies the year when a letter was written, it is specific year. I hope i am able to solve your query.
