Opinion needed pls .. profile check

by jorhul » Mon Jun 16, 2014 8:20 am
hey,

Was wondering if I could get some views..

I'm contemplating going for MBA .. and would like some feedback...

I'm 35, B Engineer + MS with 10 years of investment banking experience (trading).
now i'm thinking of broadening my options and considering doing an EMBA but .. want to know what sort of job opportunities can I apply to post MBA... given my profile.

I'm only interested in one of the top schools otherwise not keen but given i left school ages ago I feel very rusty with the GMAT syllabus ..

Some would say that a MBA is not required if i want to continue in IB but I'm looking at a more sustainable future. An MBA would open up possibilities I think.

Appreciate thoughts...many thanks in advance..

Hi jorhul

EMBA programs in our understanding are generally for knowledge purposes, a management degree at your own pace. If you are really looking at very good career opportunities then they might not be able to give you it all.

We are not sure where you are from otherwise we would have suggested you to look at Indian EMBA programs which are for 1 year and are residential programs which might help you build networks with like minded and experienced people.

Thanks and Regards

Appreciate general view of many here.

Jorhul,

Generally, EMBA or part time MBA doesn't provide the options to change the career path. It can help enhancing it.

If you are an engineer, an EMBA can help you become an project manager. If you are an analyst, it can help you become a lead analyst and so on.

But unlike full time MBA programs, you can move from back office to front office IB or management consulting or corporate strategy kind of roles.

I hope it clarifies.
