Stuck in the mid 500's

Hello Everyone,
I took the GMAT a couple months ago and scored in the mid 500's. I am taking it again in about 5 weeks. My last couple practice tests have also been int he mid 500's. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get past this hump and into the 600's?

I am using Manhattan GMAT and the OG's

Hi there,

There's a limit to how many tips we can provide to you without knowing your specific strengths and weaknesses, but here are a few overall thoughts:

It is very possible to improve from the 500's to the 600's with sufficient quality practice and studying. In general I recommend:

-laying out a defined study plan between now and test day. Aim for at least 1-2 hours/day, 4-5 days/week. Detail what you will do each day.

-mix up your math and your verbal practice to keep both sets of skills fresh.

-practice on the computer as much as possible.

-take a full length CAT about once/week. (Sometimes people find they are not improving if they are just studying with books and not taking realistic practice tests, for example.)

-set aside time after each CAT (generally the next day, when you are less exhausted) to review it in detail. Learn from your mistakes, and also take note of what your strengths and weaknesses are to help guide your study.

-Focus on your time management skills. These can make all the difference.


Beyond that, it really depends upon what your specific challenge-areas are; you'll need to spend time reviewing content if needed (math and grammar), as well as practicing realistic questions and solidifying strategies for each question type.
