ron has said that many of them in sc2 is run on.........................
but many of them in sc1 is correct

please explain the concept of many of them many of which

we use like when we are focusing on nouns...so here like is correct.....women is plural..so it should be work

IMO C

B. as with much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women works, many in
C. as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of them in
D. like much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women works, and many are. (in is required for parallelism)
E. like much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many are in (in is required for parallelism)

Based on improper comparison we can get rid of B,D, and E.
To select between A and C i.e many of which Vs many of them check the pronoun/relative pronoun-agreement.
Clearly women is plural so, them is correct pronoun.Hence, C is the winner.

Patchwork is singular, so it needs a singular verb surrounds
