Most Corporations pay at least twice as much to full-time employees, if the value of benefits, sick days and paid vacation days are included in earnings, than to part-time employees; whose hourly wages are often higher than those of their full-time colleagues.

A: are included in earnings, than
B: are included in earnings, as
C: is included in earnings, than they pay
D: is included in earnings, as is paid
E: is included in earnings, as they pay

please suggest...

Correct idiom: as much X as Y, where X and Y should be parallel. >> Eliminate A and C

value is singular, so we need 'is'. >> Eliminate B

It is not correct to say 'is paid' after using 'pay'. >> Eliminate D.

In E, they pay is parallel to Most Corporations pay, and 'they, refers to 'most corporations'

hence E is correct.

Also, I feel that a comma should have been used in place of the semicolon. Can you please check?

thnx vinayak for the explanation. Correct answer is E.

I got confused between is and are didn't realize 'is' was pointing to value. But now got it.

Yes there is a semicolon in original sentence.

A semicolon doesn't make sense here. What is the source? If it is not OG, then you can be 100% sure that we need to replace the semicolon with a comma.
