B School selection guidance

Hi,

I am new on the forum and I am about to take my GMAT in a few days. At the moment I am completely unaware about which schools to aim for etc..

I wanted some expert advice on how to narrow down schools to begin with.

I am an Electronics and Communications engineer from Manipal Institute of Technology, India. I have an 8/10 GPA. I have a work experience of 2.5 years (including my 6 month internship) with Deloitte Consulting. I have worked in the US for 9 months now, and previously I worked in India.

How should I begin narrowing down my schools? I am aiming at an MBA in Marketing or General Management.

Hi Ketaki,

Let the GMAT get over.

School selection is by far the hardest process before getting an admit. It is a gargantuan task, if I may say so. Linda has an ebook on school selection process. Might help you since you are starting over.

Selecting schools is all about fit.
Your profile matches the school and vice versa.

I would recommend that you go through USnews rankings to get a list of schools. Then you can find out the main specialization in each school, visit school websites etc.

Parameters helping school choice are
Your career goals?
city you want to do your MBA in?
you willing to wait for the right school?
Financial considerations?

Visiting the MBA tour also helps. Check the mba tour to see when they visit your city. Many schools come.

Since you are in the US, you can also schedule campus visits and actually experience the campus life before selecting schools.
