Suggestion's for an Electrical Engineer

Looking for some guidance as I start applying for a MBA program.

My undergrad is in Electrical Engineering where I accumulated a 3.08. I have yet to take the GMAT but I expect to score around 650. At the time I submit my application I will have 3 years of work experience and will have earned a graduate certificate in Project Management. I will have also completed 2 finical accounting classes at a junior college, receiving A's in both.

I am looking at the Depaul part-time MBA program. Will the admissions department show any leeway with the lower GPA because it is from a technical field? Will the graduate certificate in PM add any value? What about showing initiative and taking business classes at a junior college?

Dear Big Duke Six:

Congratulations on your decision to get your MBA! An engineering degree is a great foundation for your quantitative coursework in business school. Admissions committees do review transcripts for coursework taken and look at your grades in quantitative and analytical courses closely. While I would not go so far to say leeway is shown based on an applicant's major, it will be noted how you did in those particular courses and the school you attended will also be considered in the assessment.

The PM certificate and junior college courses do add some value to your application. They demonstrate you have thought about switching gears in your career and pursued coursework to confirm your interest. You will want to include transcripts from both as part of your applicaiton. Be sure to highlight in your essays any actitives you undertake to reinforce your commitment to getting your MBA.

Big duke Six, how u doin ?

I have my BS in EE from US too.. with an exact GPA and work experience as yours ( rather strange)... I haven't taken the GMAT yet too..WOW.

I was wondering, if you could please provide me some information about the project managment certification ??

The project management cert is through the Project Management Institute (PMI). You can go to PMI.org to find out more information. To get the cert you have to take 8 classes which are any where from 3 days to a week long. I am fortunate enough to have the classes taught at my work, and paid for by my work :) Getting the certification is the first step in becoming a PMP (project management professional). Hope this is what you were looking for.
