Q. A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950 have gone to university-press books.
(A) A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950 have gone to university-press books.
(B) A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, university-press books have won 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950.
(C) Increasingly influential as a large sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950 have gone to university-press books.
(D) Since 1950, a large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards have gone to university-press books.
(E) Since 1950, university-press books, a large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, won 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards from then on.

OA is[spoiler] (B)[/spoiler]. Kindly answer with explanation. Also, what could be the difficulty level of this Q?

Point#1: The subordinate clause “A large…publishing” should qualify logically correct noun i.e. “university-press books”
Point#2: “Since” requires present perfect tense, so “have won” is correct.

Only B is correct on both the points.

Regarding difficulty level: 600-700

My take on this is 1 single error- modifier issue. The sentence starts with "A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing" - this should be followed by the influential sector of publishing that it is talking about, viz university press books. basically the modifier should modify university press books and not a percentage etc.
Only option B solves the modifier issue and places it in the right way!
Its better to burn out than to fade away

The modifier in the option [E] correctly modifies the university-press books. but the sentence is not correct at the end. 'from then on' is wordy. Also, it is not using present participle.

When I read the choices, I got down to B and E. and selected B for the reasons karmayogi gave.

Karmayogi : is it past participle or present participle. 'I think its present participle.' Please explain if I am wrong.

Thanks for pointing out. Edited the post. It has to be present perfect and not past perfect. I think, in the above post (quoted) you meant "perfect" not "participle."
