total cost for 20 plates and 40 cups

The total cost of 100 paper plates and 200 paper cups is $5.00. At the same rates, what is the total cost of 20 of the plates and 40 of the cups?

A $0.90
B $1.00
C $1.20
D $1.50
E $1.60

Paper plates = P
Paper cups = C
100P + 200C = $5

We have to find 20P + 40C.

Now if we divide the equation, 100P + 200C = $5, throughout by 5, we get
20P + 40C = $1

The correct answer is B.
